The Wedding & Party Floral Trends Forecast for 2023 is now available from Butera The Florist!
Wedding & Party Planning
Floral design planning for 2023 weddings and parties is well underway and oh, how we love working with clients to bring their dreams to reality! We believe this will be a bright and beautiful year for weddings and large parties along the coast of Maine.
In fact, the “Pinterest Predicts” annual report states a huge surge in 2023 of people planning
“… epic bashes for major milestones, from 100th birthday parties to 50th anniversaries.”
4 Key Floral Design Trends for 2023
Multiple trends emerge and evolve in any given year. Butera The Florist has identified four key wedding & party floral trends for 2023 likely to influence celebrations in major ways. These trends will probably flow into 2024 as well.
- Bright & Happy Colors
- Soft Neutral Color Palettes
- Ethereal Vibe
- Focal Point Decorating
There are so many beautiful possibilities with these four floral trends, so let’s dig in and take a look!
Bright & Happy Colors
We have all been impacted by a pandemic over the last few years. Now that the isolation has relaxed a bit, people are super charged to have a great time together in person again!
For many weddings and events, that excitement will be reflected in bright and happy floral colors this year.
“Color is often the most important element of floral wedding artistry.
It is color that instantly conveys the vibe of the day.”,
commented Vince Butera, AIFD, PFCI, AAF during a recent consultation with a 2023 wedding couple.
Pantone’s Color of The Year for 2023
It is not surprising that Pantone named “Viva Magenta” as Color of The Year for 2023. It’s the kind of color that screams, “Let’s have a great time together!”, especially when paired with other happy colors.
According to Pantone,
“Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”
Pantone’s “Viva Magenta” color can be translated into a multitude of wedding florals.

The trend of “Bright & Happy Colors” is not limited to Viva Magenta. Maybe for summer, your story is about a garden or pool party in bright and happy colors such as yellow, orange, pink, red, green, blue, purple and lavender.

Perhaps you are getting married or hosting a party at one of the iconic hotel resorts in Bar Harbor, Maine and want a natural and abundant garden inspired design for your guest tables.
Soft Neutral Color Palettes
For the next story concept in 2023, we predict shades of creamy white mostly, but sometimes blended with a hint of one or more soft colors. English Garden Roses, mini spray roses, ranunculus, peony, and other elegant blooms are popular choices for this trend. They are fluffy blooms and often silhouetted by a foliage mix to give a crisp and clean look.
“Always timeless, always in fashion, the use of soft shades in neutrals
gives a comforting feeling and a sense of relaxed elegance.”
~Vince Butera, Creative Director & Co-Owner, Butera The Florist
Summer Garden Bridal Bouquet by Butera The Florist in the “Soft Neutral Color Palette” Trend
Yellow Butterfly Ranunculus is an excellent choice for Butera The Florist’s “Soft, Neutral Color Palette” trend.
Creamy white ranunculus, anemone, scabiosa, veronica and gypsophila are blended with dark green Italian Ruscus and accents of soft Jasmine Vine in this bridal bouquet by Butera The Florist. The composition offers a classy contemporary look to the always romantic soft neutral color palette of white, ivory and tones of blush.
Ethereal Vibe
A quick search of synonyms for the word “ethereal” provides this list: airy, celestial, exquisite, sublime and dainty. We believe that this trend story will largely play out with the once again hugely popular flower, Gypsophila.
Certainly, Baby’s Breath has been added to floral designs for a very long time. However, the current ethereal look uses Gypsophila in mass quantities to produce cloud-like bouquets, tablescapes, and aerial structures that appear to be floating.
At wedding receptions, long farm tables can be draped end to end with fresh Gypsophila garlands. The flow can continue gently onto the floor like a splashing waterfall.

Think how exquisite Baby’s Breath would be designed as a rounded bridesmaid bouquet or in large urns billowing with these tiny white blooms. Or feature this popular flower in one-of-a-kind sculptural designs created just for your wedding or party.
“Gypsophila in mass can create the illusion of actual clouds in the atmosphere above the Bride & Groom or designed as a sculptural element for special sites at the reception, such as this guest table chart.”
~Vince Butera
Focal Point Decorating
Implementing the technique of Focal Point Decorating for weddings and events is very popular with our clients this year!
The core idea of the Focal Point Decorating concept within the context of wedding & party floral trends for 2023 is that it’s better to do a few things well to make a visual impact, than to dabble flowers and botanicals everywhere.
“Dabbling dissipates the floral impact, while strategic focal points create
the memorable “Wow!” impression of a special setting.”
~Carolyn Butera, Strategic Planner & Co-Owner, Butera The Florist
Focal Point Decorating has been an important point in planning BTF weddings for more than 40 years.
Take a look at this guest table centerpiece by Butera The Florist in one of the most highly searched colors on Pinterest for weddings this year. “Rust Married” features burnt orange with shades of rust, terracotta, and copper. This vibrant BTF floral design combines Pinterest’s “Rust Married” trend with the BTF trend of “Bright & Happy Colors” to create memorable floral artistry for a very special day!

“The two most important areas in a wedding to invest in the Focal Point Decorating
concept are your wedding ceremony spot and guest tables at the reception.”
~Vince Butera
Ceremony Setting
The ceremony spot is where it all happens. It is the first place your guests gather, and you want to create a spot where their eyes will be attracted that says “this space is special”.

Arbor decorating will say a lot about the story you want to tell that day, from rustic/outdoorsy to romantic garden to formal, and can be key in outdoor settings.
It brings the eyes to focus on the ceremony when the great outdoors are all around. Large urns of blooms can set the stage and draw the attention to the space you are standing in or will walk through to say “I do”.
Guest Tables as Focal Points
An equally important space to incorporate Focal Point Decorating will be the visual for your guest tables at the wedding reception.

Guest tables are the places your friends and family will stay for the longest time. This is the party, the celebration of your marriage or anniversary or special milestone in life!
A well designed centerpiece or tablescape will make a lasting impression with your guests. They will be catching glimpses of botanical beauty for hours during your celebration event.
Centerpieces and tablescapes can be designed in any number of unique and original ways to tell your story.
Think about lush, low mounds of beautiful flowers in your color pallete. Consider elevated designs that are at eye level as your guests walk into the room.
Composite centerpieces of a number of varied elements can tell a more relaxed story. Envision a variety of bottles or other vessels with a few blooms in each accented with some romantic votive candles. Maybe shells, stones or anything else that tells YOUR story will be incorporated into the floral artistry.
Tell YOUR Story in YOUR Style
As you plan your wedding or large party event, consider how one or more of these current trends might influence your floral design strategy: Bright & Happy Colors, Pantone’s “Viva Magenta”, Soft Neutral Color Palettes, Ethereal Vibe, and Focal Point Decorating.
There are a myriad of great ideas out there for wedding and special event flowers. Just look at Pinterest or Instagram or TikToc for a few minutes and you’ll be inspired and perhaps a bit overwhelmed too. Wedding & party floral trends for 2023 are just a starting point in planning your special day.
“The real key is to choose an overall unifying concept that tells YOUR story and conveys YOUR style for your wedding day or party celebration.” ~Vince Butera
